"Something about those nostalgic riff, trickling over crispity, crunchy guitar melodies, tinkling in time to offbeat rhythms. There ain't nothing square about it, this is what the kids are calling cool. color by numbers has nothing to prove - it doesn't waste time attempting to school. Ole boy gets right down to rocking that ass! So shake what your mama gave you, and don't be ashamed, color cassette loves you, love handles and all." - Color Cassette

"Nicorola's debut on 1bit wonder is a selection of songs produced over the last three years. And we say "songs" because that's what they are: Although being exclusively electronic his approach to music is totally independent from the necessities of the dancefloor. That's the reason why "tracks" wouldn't fit for his works - they are more like soundtrack pieces to an imaginary movie in your head. Lean back and let the journey begin..." - Nicorola

In-Tune: Tilden

"A life of musical ideas and inspiration by Martin Clark was realized in 2002, when he created the musical guise Tilden. Bored with convential use of guitar, bass, and drums he took ideas from all types of music and his imagination and manifested them using synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers. Since age 17 he has toyed around with synthesizers believing them to be the future and hope for music. His vision of music revolves around beauty, borderline psychedelica, childlike melodies, and ambiance. Once he established himself in his style he decided to start putting his unique brand of music to tape. Since then he's been working on his album which is currently untitled. During 2004 he was added to Gentle Records, and is now working hard of finishing his album. " - Tilden

"Starfrosch is a collective from bern (.ch) bringing us a surprisingly pop-esque and very playful release. In addition starfrosch is also a platform for podcasting, netaudio-news, networking and a gamecenter. According to Douglas Adams "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", Frogstar World B is the planet which plans the restaurant at the end of the universe. That's where we all would like to go, to hear Jeannie Casey (voc) and Carina Schilling (voc) unfold their voices, and sing themself into the souls of the listeners. while Christoph Geissb¸hler (piano), Markus Koller (laptop), Adriano Schneider (guitar) and Daniel Sch‰rer (bass) are concentrating on groove and harmony during their recording sessions. Those guys don't talk about musical biographies, but instead feel like they were born with their instruments and play. And their tonal diversity is best reflected in the music." - Starfrosch

In-Tune: Matmos

"There's a lot of lip service paid these days to various electronic-based music being "experimental"- but Matmos' musical practice genuinely deserves this much abused term. Using samplers, analogue keyboards, field recordings and guitars, Matmos make atmospheric, idiosyncratic electronica. In addition to incorporating chance operations into their sequencing enviroment, many songs are based upon a working methodology of "conceptual restriction"- songs are built entirely out of samples from a single sound source: field recordings, contact microphones on hair, even the sound of an amplified synapse from crayfish nerve tissue. Sometimes these samples and recordings are built up into elaborate rhythmic sequences verging on (but tweaking) the by-now familiar subgenres of trip hop, drum and bass and electro; sometimes these sound sources are kept beat-free, and sculpted into frighteningly noisy atmospheres, or shot through with eerie silent pauses and gaps." - Matmos

In-Tune: Machine Drum

"Of the many aliases attributed to Orlando, FL-based artist Travis Stewart (aka Syndrone, tstewart) Machine Drum is handily the most well-known. Although initially conceived as an outlet for Stewart's drill'n'bass meanderings, Machine Drum's first public release was a hazy, skittering melange that owed more to hip-hop and ambient than early Squarepusher. Indeed, the bursting "Izey Rael" would prove to be the template for Machine Drum's ensuing long-player. Recorded during the summer of 2000 through to early 2001 on location in Hickory, NY, and eventually released on Merck, the brilliant Now You Know would eventually be released to underground acclaim, firmly establishing the 19-year-old Stewart as one of IDM's brightest hopes. Since then he's taken hip-hop into gritty ambient worlds with Urban Biology, and here with Bidnezz smothers dirty-south conventions with his own Hickory, North Carolina raised brand of beats." - Machine Drum

Gaia13's latest full-length release "The Sea Turtle Project" is an album grounded by complex but consistent percussion and solid bass, and layered with interwoven and transcendent melodies. It's the result of 10 months worth of recording and producing in the studio. "I went in totally new directions with The Sea Turtle Project, meticulously adding rhythmic and melodic elements to songs which I had written and performed over the previous year." " 'Chronic Dreams' is the new album by producer Victor Stone. Mixing tracks from earlier recording sessions, samples from the Magnatune catalogue and newly recorded material by Victor and several other Magnatune recording artists, he has created an album of music that has been called 'groove soaked ambient chill.' Combining his training in classical and jazz with a passion for North American and British popular music Victor creates a mood reminiscent of modern producers such as DJ Food and DJ Krush. As with those producers, his approach is 'source agnostic' culling sounds wherever they may come from, recording new material as needed to fit the ambience of the project." - Four Stones

As one half of electronic duo The Vivid he released 2001's unanimously critically acclaimed Stripper album which was used on a Channel 4 documentary on Creamfields and was released in Germany via New Music GmbH where it's predecessor Shiny sold 10.000 copies. In-Tune: Black Ether

"Born of a concept that music should be felt as much as heard, Black Ether has been captivating listeners since 2001 with emotive down tempo electronic music. Like tendrils of long forgotten dreams, Black Ether moves people in ways very few artists can, simultaneously touching on the human and spiritual conditions with a force that can be as soft as a feather, or like a sledge hammer to the brain. Reminiscent of acts like Delirium, Deep Forest and VAST, Black Ether has managed, however, to blaze its own sonic trail with a distinctiveness that speaks “Black Ether”. Ethereal ambience, haunting melodies, tribal drums, sensuous and peaceful vocals, soaring guitars and keyboard solos and a healthy dose of creativity culminates in a sound that is timeless, emotive, and extraordinarily mind blowing." - Black Ether

In-Tune: Odd Nosdam

"Born in Cincinnati, A young odd nosdam began meddling with machines in the mid 90's, looping his favorite Nirvana riffs and Black Moon beats on a Sega Genesis and filling tapes with noise collage. In his early 20's, this hobby became an obsessive lifestyle when he purchased a dr. sample and Tascam cassette 8-track, and met and collaborated with doseone and why? on their greenthink tapes. Nosdam's art begins with a specific sound in mind and an arduous search for source material. The assemblage portion of nosdam's process is executed quickly and with a great deal of spontaneity, most pieces being completed in a single sitting at his MPC with a single mindstate and a clear direction. As the artist eloquently explains, "If I'm in a certain mood, shit comes out a certain way." Nosdam has developed his own unique musical sensibility, drawing inspiration from a broad palette ranging from Flying Saucer Attack, Hood, The Rza, Prince Paul and everything in-between and outlying. A rare quality among modern instrumental artists, nosdam allows his many mental ups and downs, quirks and eccentricities to seep deep into his sound creations." - Odd Nosdam

"E*vax is the solo project of Evan Mast, also a member of Ratatat (XL Recordings). Following two sold-out singles on ADR and Static Caravan and an appearance on a Morr Music compilation, E*Vax delivered his first full-length effort, "Parking Lot Music". The album's 11 tracks range from upbeat pop electronics to laid back melancholy numbers. The focus is certainly on the melodic, but each track also contains complex beat structures while maintaining a level of subtlety. Utilizing a wide variety of methods for sound manipulation, E*Vax thrives on taking simple, everyday, household sounds and twisting them into rhythmic patterns. These patterns are then recontextualized and layered with melody to produce a subtle form of electro-acoustic music. Though despite all that, it's pop music at heart." - E*vax
