In-Tune: Kali Frogz

Style: Electronica

"Kali-Frogz are Christopher Fabulet and Eric Brandy. With this five-track EP, the French duo delivers an incredible set of mesmerizing rhythms, soaring synths, infectious keyboards, sizzling electronics and experimental moments. The lead track 'Sakrifice' begins with a brief episode of pounding beats and frenzied noise reminiscent of early industrial music. This quickly gives way to a more structured atmosphere of hypnotic (almost tribal) beats, melancholy keyboards, and meticulous flickering electronics. 'Mystic Future' is a bleak track leaning towards the experimental side. Discordant keyboards, an ominous beat, distorted voices, and unsettling noises take the listener on a brief side trip to the darker side. 'Light Modulation' is an uplifting composition of stirring orchestral-like synths, blissful electronics, and moving beats that are accentuated with samples of Martin Luther King’s inspirational 'I Have a Dream' speech. The stirring horn-like synths and reverberating layers of rhythmic beats on 'Deeprecif' only serve to strength the inspiring atmosphere initiated in 'Light Modulation'. A low tonal drone, robotic voices, staccato keyboard notes, and peculiar electronic noises in 'Altantide' give it a surreal ambiance which marks the return to darker moments and brings the listener to the end of this engaging aural journey." - LAJ / Kali Frogz / SubMachine.net

In-Tune: Sinq

Style: Electronica

"Another debut on Monotonik, and honestly, somewhat of a spectacular one from SinQ, aka Sander van Orischot, a Dutch electronic musician who's produced, in his album 'Passage', one of our favorite works so far this year - and we're lucky enough to be able to release it for free, too! Completely licensed via Creative Commons, and even using multiple CC-licensed recordings as samples, SinQ's blend of triphop, electronics, and ambient is evocative and beautiful, with first track 'Who's Afraid Of Noises?' using haunting female vocals, samples from noted Dutch jazz pianist Jeroen van Vliet, and a loping Bristolian sound to air things out in a rather wonderful way. In general, it's either an ambient hush or gorgeous blisslike nu-chill, reminiscent of some of the best of the genre, with 'Be Brave' rinsing out the evocative, Overpass building up a kind of slow train groove, and 'Are You There?' leading up to a soundtrack high. Things all end out with 'Epiloque', again gorgeous, and really the epitome of what Monotonik has tried to provide for the last few years - the best headphone music you can find." - Sinq / Monotonik

In-Tune: Lezrod

Style: Ambient Electronica

"The average music savvy already knows that a great deal of the most interesting electronic music is coming out of latin american countries. With Mexico and Argentina at he first wave of experimentalists, we now have to include Colombia, because of artists like David Velez, aka Lezrod. David started his jouney of micro-ambient electronica at Zymogen, with 'Retorno a la Nada', a mutant body of glitchy drones and jazz-inspired compositions. But Lezrod's music isn't static, it's always evolving and shapeshifting into something that completely mirrors the artist's complex personality. David is also a big music lover, of all kinds. So it's not surprising that eventually he would ask some of his friends, also music artists that David respects, to do something together. 'Data Transfer' is the result of a combined work led out by Lezrod and his friends, where chunks of music information were transfered electronically back and forth, between Lezrod's hometown Bogota and other distant places like Darren McClure's Japanese home, Gurdonark's Texas prairie, Stephen's Ohio and Fgmcvp's Florida beaches, the latter being a personal friend of David from Colombia. David has compiled here a great selection of collaborative work that will be remembered and tresured for years to come. There aren't many artists with such relatively short careers making music with this quality and density. Zymogen can indeed be proud of putting out releases like this. And from this side, we can only be thankful for that." - Lezrod / Zymogen

"'Knobs' netlabel is back with a storm after half-year break. It was worth to wait! This time we have for you a brill mini-album of Mookid. Lithuanian artist with a big potential prepared a release full of emotions. As you can expect, all 7 tracks of "In Sync" (like always on "Knobs") are tech-minded, groovy and perfect to rock a dancefloor. Mini-album also includes a tool to extend boundaries of your dj set. Don't doubt about capability of Mookid to produce fabulous deep-minimal-tech and tech-house tracks. He already proved it with his previous releases. Just listen and enjoy !!" - Mookid / Knobs

In-Tune: Off Land

Style: Electronica

"The debut release of Off Land is a marvelous collection of subdued, melancholic ambience and electronics. Things slowly start off with minimal drones, followed by shuffling beats and anomalous guitar loops, interspersed with vocal snippets. The rest flows like water, with hints of nominal piano melodies, acoustic rhythms, bells and drones sliding in and out through this elegant collection, floating off into oblivion. This is a remarkable achievement, and a stimulating listening experience." - Off Land

In-Tune: Heavenly Noise

Style: Downtempo

"In an era where love songs have become tragic, Heavenly Noise is the dynamic duo celebrating their love through music. This husband and wife team, from Jacksonville, Florida, are an electro-acoustic soul act that pride themselves on defying genres. After taking a 6-month hiatus in China and playing around Seoul, they are now finishing up their second full-length recording, to be released on Melting Pot Music in 2006. Their debut album, Room For Two was a refreshing combination of r-n-b, soul, hip-hop, and jazz, even world music. Lead singer Daisey has a voice that's every bit as sultry as the best soul divas and, at times, as roaring and raspy as Janis Joplin. Her husband, producer/composer, Batsauce, is the essential one-man band. Crafting head bangin' beats, infectious hooks, and a vast array of sounds, he is able to lay out the sonic tapestry that makes their unique sound so complete. Together, they write the lyrics, inspired by their true love." - Heavenly Noise

In-Tune: Tonearm

Style: Electronica

"Tonearm is a solo project of New York-based musician/producer Ilia Bis. Bis grew up in Moscow and later moved to the U.S., where he simultaneously pursued studies in composition/orchestration and computer sound synthesis. Before launching Tonearm in late 2004, Bis produced and played in a number of bands, performed his music at multimedia festivals and fashion shows, and completed several soundtracks for independent films. The idea behind Tonearm is to combine sophisticated songwriting and computer-based production with the thrill of a raw live performance. Throughout 2005, Tonearm played in a wide range of clubs, from mid-sized venues to a filled 800-capacity ballroom. His final show of the year was a well-received opening set for The Notwist. Tonearm's performances have garnered universal praise from critics and received broad coverage from press and television; at the end of the year he was hailed as "the best thing that happened to Russian electronic music in 2005" by Moscow's most respected cultural publication, “Afisha”. After spending the last year and a half in Europe and Russia, Tonearm has returned to New York, where he is finishing his debut record." - Tonearm / Ilia Bis

In-Tune: Cepia

"Cepia (pronounced "SEP-ee-uh") is the sound of industry meeting with the vague memories that rest somewhere in the back of everyone's mind. Processed bells lilt and chime at their whim, while kick drums skitter and scramble to catch up. Infinite layers of clicks and drones provide the glue that holds it all together perfectly. Minneapolis-based Huntley Miller, a radio archivist and the man behind Cepia, fuses all the most affecting elements of pop, rock, and jazz composition - polyrhythms, countermelodies, calculated structures, and melodic hooks - into a cohesive electronic whole." - Cepia

In-Tune: Paral-lel

Style: Breakbeat

"Paral-lel is a duo composed of two artists, Slush and Praktisch, also both founders of BEE Records. Slush built his own sound by becoming an expert DJ in electro breakbeat and breakcore, while Praktisch got into more subtle sounds like post rock and click n' cuts atmospheres. On stage, Paral.lel gathers these influences into a dynamic and lively electro which is based on organic melodies that leave enough room for powerful breaks." Paral-lel
